Just a reminder our next meeting is scheduled for May 6, 2009 from 3:45 - 4:45 at the Holland Brook School board meeting room. We will be having a presentation by our student information systems software vendor.
The sales woman will be going over
Teach Logic – A web based grade entry screen for teachers. This screen can also be used as a grade book.
Home Logic – A web based system where parents can look at student’s grades and attendance information.
Please let me know if you can attend this meeting or not. We want to start right at 3:45, since the presentations will take the full hour of the meeting.

Listed below are the Notes from the April 8th session

Topics Discussed:

What are the top administrative points of pain for the office?

The team walked through some manual processes that take place
during a typical school day, using a "follow the clock" approach

Paper Process
Opportunties for Improvement using technology:

AM

Student attendence (keeping track, recording absences, want to do this on the computer)

Bus attendence, in relation to accident processes and procedures (who is on what bus, what where the impacts, who will be late, etc)

Lunch counts

Student plans for that day's pick up (bus, Y-ASP, Parent PU, Walker, etc).

NOON

How do students pay for lunch, besides cash or lunch tickets

How can parents provide funds via the computer or debit type card

PM

Student pick up plans compared to inital scheudle and modifications noted in case teachers are unavilabile and office needs to know where a child is. What if the plans change during the day, must be kept track of

Existing Technology

- MIGS/SIRS is the current system that contains Student Names and addresses. Would like to load pictures and take advantage of all the powerful functions that the system can offer.
- Training for teachers would be needed.
- System is due to be upgraded to a WEB version in the next school year.
- Current system is not user friendly.
- Would like the system to not only store grades and test scores, but allow parent acess from home.
- Currently teachers can only have access to certain parts and can't load grades from home.

Quick Things to consider for improvement
- Change communciations to parents to be LISTSERV as deafult, via email.
- OPT-IN for paper would be the only way to continue recieving paper in backpack mail.

Future Technology
- Data Warehousing. Tetra Data is a service that is being considered.
